ARLINGTON, Texas - Looking to start 3-0 for a second consecutive season, UT Arlington heads to the road for the first time when it takes on in-state rival UTSA on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
The Lady Mavs (2-0), receiving votes in the USA Today Preseason Coaches' Poll, downed Oral Roberts on Monday night 70-46 behind a career-high 22 points from senior Crystal Allen. The stretch will also end a three-game in five-day opening to the 2017-18 season. UTA owns a 32-28 all-time record over UTSA, however, the Roadrunners (1-1) lead 18-10 in San Antonio.
Live audio will be provided on GoUTSA.com for free, however, a video stream costs $6.95 at ConferenceUSA.org.
The all-time series stretches back through two different conference that included the Southland and WAC prior to the teams going their separate ways. The teams have met at least once every season since 1991, with the first all-time matchup taking place in 1982. A win on Wednesday night would give UTA a three-game winning streak over UTSA, tying the best streak for the Lady Mavs since taking four in a row between 1999 and 2000.
Cierra Johnson, playing in just one of the contests vs. UTSA due to injury, scored 16 points last season, while Rebekah VanDijk averages 9.0 in three games played, produced a double-double in 2014 with 14 points and 12 boards.
MILESTONE NOTES: Johnson and VanDijk continue to move up all-time charts in both UTA history and Sun Belt history. VanDijk improved to 19th in the league with her 147th block on Monday night. She needs five to continue the climb. With 862 rebounds, she'll move into the SBC Top-25 with 13 more. On just three made field-goals, she'll achieve 500, just the eight player in UTA history to do so. Johnson needs just six points to reach 900 in her career as she strives to be the 19th player to reach 1,000 in club history. Her 249 steals are tied for 15th, while six will tie for 14th in the league. Johnson needs just nine more to tied Melissa Nix for second in program history.
WORTH NOTING: UTSA is one of two clubs on the nonconference slate that were also a part of last year's schedule. The matchup is UTA's lone meeting with a C-USA opponent. UTA is 69-84 all-time against teams currently in the league... UTA is the lone team in the SBC that has played two games, and one of six unblemished.
