ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington ends nonconference action on Thursday when it welcomes San Francisco to College Park Center for a 4:30 p.m. tipoff on ESPN3. The Lady Mavericks are at home for the first time since Dec. 1 and are looking to end a five-game losing skid.
Kids 18 and under are free as part of UTA Basketball's Holiday Hoops! Tickets are presented at the UTA Tickets Box Office at College Park Center.
The Thursday doubleheader with the men also marks a battle of head coaches that have national championship experience. UTA coach Krista Gerlich won a title with Texas Tech in 1993 - who celebrates the 25th anniversary this season, while USF head coach Molly Goodenbour won two titles with Stanford in 1990 and 1992.
UTA (5-5) has had a tough slate to work through of late, playing four of its last five games against Power 5 conference teams, and returns to CPC for a mid-major matchup with the Dons (5-5).
HOW TO WATCH / LISTEN
Wednesday's game will be streamed live on ESPN3 (WatchESPN.com, WatchESPN App) with Josh Sours and Robert Gill on the call.
UTA and San Francisco are meeting for the third time in series history and first in Arlington. The last matchup took place in 2010 on a neutral court in Lubbock, Texas as UTA knocked off USF 70-67. The teams are slated to meet again in 2018 in San Francisco, Calif.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
Hoping to snap the five-game losing streak, UTA is 15-4 at College Park Center over the last two seasons, the lone loss in 2017 coming to Houston.
Rebekah VanDijk looks to continue to move up the UTA all-time scoring charts. The senior is just eight points away from moving into sixth in program history. VanDijk enters with 1,356 career points. She also can move up the league charts with just one rebound to move into 14th, entering with 935 boards.
Turnovers have been a large part of the story for the skid, in the five losses, UTA has averaged 21.4 turnovers a game, while suffering just 14.6 in the wins.
HEAD COACH Krista Gerlich
Krista Gerlich enters the Houston game with a 231-120 career record, while posting a 63-78 record in her fifth season at UTA. A 1993 graduate of Texas Tech, Gerlich has led a resurgance of the Lady Mavs, bringing the team from just a four-win season in her first year, to reaching the WNIT in 2017. As a player, Gerlich won the 1993 NCAA National Championship with Texas Tech. Prior to UTA, she was a standout coach at West Texas A&M, claiming three conference titles.
LAST TIME OUT
UTA led for much of the opening quarter before a quick run by Arkansas saw the Razorbacks take the lead with less than 30 seconds in the first period. Arkansas would hold on to the lead for the remainder. Shelby Richards knocked down a 3-pointer at the first-half buzzer to trim the deficit to just 11 at half time. She'd hit another in the third to trim it down to eight points before a 30-5 run by Arkansas pulled it away for good.
VanDijk finished with a team-high 14 points and eight rebounds. Richards finished with a season-high 12 points and Laurynn McGowen joined in on the double-digit party with 10. UTA turned the ball over 22 times, and allowed 12 3-pointers by the Razorbacks.
