THE GAME: The UT Arlington women’s basketball hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi as the Mavericks continue their search for a victory. This matchup marks the 12th meeting between the two schools. The last time the teams met, the Mavericks defeated the Islanders 74-54 in Corpus Christi.

SCOUTING TEXAS A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI: The Islanders are 6-3 on the season after coming off two straight victories including a 68-54 win over the Maverick's previous opponent. TAMU-CC is led by senior Jasmine Shaw averaging 16.4 points per game and 5 rebounds. The Islanders have not lost a road game this season.

LAST TIME OUT: UT Arlington fell 75-63 Wednesday night against the University of Texas-Pan American at UTPA Fieldhouse. Senior guard Laila Suleiman led the team with 17 points. Joining Suleiman in double-figure scoring were Tahlia Pope (11) and Malaika Green (10).



WHO TO WATCH: Senior guard Laila Suleiman has scored in double figures in the Mavericks' last three outings. She scored 17 points against UTPA earlier this week, and is shooting 62 percent from the 3-point arc in the last two games. Suleiman is second on the team in points per game, averaging 9.6 and is 22-23 from the charity stripe (.957).

GERLICH ERA: Krista Gerlich is in her first season at UTA after seven years at West Texas A&M. Gerlich compiled an impressive record of 168-53 in seven seasons at West Texas A&M. Her teams won four consecutive South Division Lone Star Conference titles from 2007-10 and three consecutive Lone Star Conference championships from 2008-10.

LINEUP CHANGE: Coach Gerlich has used four lineups in 10 games so far this season. Seniors Laila Suleiman and Desherra Nwanguma, as well as junior transfer Tahlia Pope, have remained starters in all 10 contests.

MAVERICKS IN 2013-14: UT Arlington returns eight letterwinners and two starters from last year. The Mavericks welcome two freshmen as well as four transfers (one sophomore and three juniors) for the 2013-14 season.
