UTA-HOUSTON BAPTIST SERIES
The Mavericks lead the all-time series against the Huskies, 1-0... the last meeting was on January 3, 2009 at Texas Hall where they Mavericks recorded a 66-57 win.

LAST GAME - UT ARLINGTON at ST. JOHN'S INVITATIONAL
UT Arlington dropped a pair of games on Saturday and Sunday at the St. John's Holiday Invitational in Jamaica, NY...The Mavericks lost their opening contest, 49-79 against Big East host-St. John's University followed by a 46-59 loss over UAB on Sunday... Meghan Nelson led the Mavs in both games in scoring with 18 and 12 points... Nelson also earned her second all-tournament team selection... in two games, UT Arlington combined for 42 total team turnovers, including 25 over St. John's.

AT THIS POINT
UT Arlington enters the latter part of their 11-game road trip with a stop in Houston, Texas... The Mavericks will take on Houston Baptist on Wednesday, Dec. 30 at 7:05 p.m... the game can be heard live on Texas Sports Radio Network (TSRNSports.com)... UTA is coming off a three game road skid and last victory came against Southeast Missouri on Dec. 12... Senior Meghan Nelson leads UT Arlington with 15.5 points per game while Shalyn Martin leads the squad with 8.5 rebounds... before conference action begins on Jan. 9, UTA will go head-to-head against Big 12 opponent-Texas on January 5 in Austin.

THE HUSKIES
HBU lost to North Carolina Central, 75-60, in the consolation game of the USF Shootout on December 20... Taniqua Hollis scored a career-high 17 points, while Megan Green recorded a season-high 12 points... Destini Texada leads the Huskies in scoring, averaging 9.2 points a contest, followed by Hollis with 8.8... Texada also leads HBU on the glass, grabbing an average of 5.7 rebounds a game, while Brittany Maxey has 13 assists, three blocks and a team-high 24 steals... the Huskies enter Wednesday match-up on a five-game skid with their last win coming on Dec. 6 against Wiley, 71-47.

TURNOVERS PROVED COSTLY FOR MAVS AT ST. JOHN'S INVITATIONAL
UT Arlington struggled in holding onto the ball in both games in the St. John's Invitational.. in the Mavericks first game against St. John's they committed 25 turnovers, including 16 first half TO's... against UAB on Sunday, UTA turned the ball over 24 times which led to 21 points for the Blazers... as a team, the Mavs are averaging 20.2 turnovers per game and in the past four games they have committed 20 or more TO's.

NELSON EARNS ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM HONORS
Senior Meghan Nelson finished the week scoring in double-figures in all four games for the Mavs... led the Mavericks in scoring against Texas Tech and San Francisco at the Basketball Traveler's Classic in Lubbock, Texas... finished the tournament the with 43 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals... was selected to the four man all-tournament team... best performance of the weekend came against Texas Tech, collecting 16 points on 7 of 13 shooting from the field in 23 minutes of action.

NELSON LEADS THE WAY
Offensively the Mavericks are being led by senior Meghan Nelson... Nelson has scored in double-figures in all of the Mavericks 11 games and has scored 15 or more points in seven games... leads the team with 15.5 points per game and is fourth in the Southland Conference in scoring... against Southeast Missouri and Arkansas State, Nelson finished with 19 points.

NELSON ADDS ANOTHER PIECE OF HARDWARE
Senior Meghan Nelson added another piece of hardware to her trophy case on Sunday, December 20 at the St. John's Holiday Invitational in Jamaica, NY... against St. John's, Nelson finished with a game high 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor, including 4-of-5 from the free throw line and added five rebounds and two steals... Nelson followed that performance with 12 points and four boards against UAB on Sunday.

1,000 POINT WATCH
Guard Meghan Nelson started her senior season with 627 total points, so far this year Nelson has collected 170 points in 11 games... she needs 203 points to become the 16th player in UTA Women's Basketball history to record 1,000 career points... With 18 games remaining in the regular season and Nelson steadily averaging 15.5 points per game she is well on her way to reaching this milestone... Last season, Nelson finished her junior year with 343 points and 11-games into the 2008-09 campaign she had only 90 points... Nelson leads the Mavericks offense having finished in double-figures in all 11 games and has scored 15 or more points in seven games.

MAVERICKS PICKED TO FINISH 2ND IN LEAGUE
The Mavericks received 53 points and three first-place votes in the coaches' poll. The Mavs tallied 55 points and five first-place votes in the SID poll. Overall UT Arlington was picked second behind Lamar, who finished third in the West Division last season. The Cardinals received 59 points and six first-place votes for the top spot. Last year's defending champion UTSA earned 50 points and two first-place votes while A&M-Corpus Christi collected 34 points and one first-place vote.
