KYLE, Texas -- The UT Arlington women's golf team improved its team score each round en route to a tie for 11th place to open its spring season in cold and wet conditions at the Texas State Invitational at Plum Creek Golf Course.

The Mavericks finished the 54-hole event with scores of 312-308-306 for a 74-over par 926 to tie Sun Belt Conference rival ULM. UTA finished just behind North Dakota State and Arkansas State in the team standings.

Central Arkansas knocked off defending champion UTSA by nine strokes to claim the team title over the 17-team field with a 20-over par 872. Houston Baptist, the tournament leader after yesterday's first round, finished in third place, just ahead of host Texas State.

Freshman Ava Schwienteck led the Mavericks for the sixth straight tournament. The Magnolia native turned in rounds of 76-74-72 and finished in a tie for 14th place with a 9-over par 222.

After opening her round with a bogey on No. 12, Schwienteck registered 3-straight pars before registering an eagle on the 462-yard, par 5 16th hole. Following her tee shot that landed in the middle of the fairway, Schwienteck sent a 3-wood into the wind 20 yards past the hole then drained the ensuing long putt.

After dropping to 2-over over the next 10 holes, she birdied the par 5 9th hole to conclude the round with her final score of 1-over.

A pair of Central Arkansas golfers took the tournament's top two individual spots with Emma Svensson, a junior from Halmstad, Sweden, claiming medalist honors with rounds of 76-68-67 to finish at 2-under par. Freshman teammate Geraldine Wong, finished at 1-under to give Central Arkansas the only two individuals to finish with scores under par.
