KYLE, Texas -- The UT Arlington women's golf team improved its team score each round en route to a tie for 11th place to open its spring season in cold and wet conditions at the Texas State Invitational at Plum Creek Golf Course.

Central Arkansas knocked off defending champion UTSA by nine strokes to claim the team title over the 17-team field with a 20-over par 872. Houston Baptist, the tournament leader after yesterday's first round, finished in third place, just ahead of host Texas State.
Freshman Ava Schwienteck led the Mavericks for the sixth straight tournament. The Magnolia native turned in rounds of 76-74-72 and finished in a tie for 14th place with a 9-over par 222.

A pair of Central Arkansas golfers took the tournament's top two individual spots with Emma Svensson, a junior from Halmstad, Sweden, claiming medalist honors with rounds of 76-68-67 to finish at 2-under par. Freshman teammate Geraldine Wong, finished at 1-under to give Central Arkansas the only two individuals to finish with scores under par.
