PALM DESERT, Calif. -- Junior Rachel Phillips is tied for a team-leading 25th place after the first two rounds of competition at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate at Classic Club.
Phillips, a native of Plano, turned in scores of 79-79 for a 36-hole total of 14-over par 158. She enters tomorrow’s final round six stokes outside of the top 10 in the tournament’s medalist competition.
As a team, UTA sits in 11th place at 72-over par, ahead of the University of North Dakota and one stroke behind CSU Bakersfield in the team standings. Santa Clara University leads the tournament at 22-over par, two strokes ahead of runner-up Hawai’i.
The field is scheduled to start the tournament’s final round tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. (CDT) on the 6.097-yard, par 72 golf course. UTA is paired with golfers from North Dakota, CSU Bakersfield and Southern Utah for tomorrow’s rounds.
Madigan Murray (McKinney, Texas) registered scores of 77-85 and is in a tie for 43rd place with an 18-over par. Ava Schwienteck (Magnolia, Texas) carded a 5-over par 77 in the morning round, but tough 3-hole stretch in the afternoon led to an 88. She is in 54th place after 36 holes.
Redshirt freshman Allison Wade is tied for 60th at 25-over par. Kate Tran (Arlington, Texas) went 89-82 and is tied for 64th place in the 76-golfer field, while Sydney Garber (Rockwall, Texas), playing as an individual, is in 71st place with scores of 91-85.
Following the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate, the Mavericks concludes their 5-event fall schedule with a pair of tournaments in Arkansas - the Fred Marx Invitational on Oct. 16-17 in Little Rock and the Little Rock Women's Golf Classic on Oct. 29-31 in Hot Springs Village.
