MONROE, La. -- Freshman Ava Schwienteck posted her third top 6 finish of the season to lead the inaugural UTA women’s golf team to a seventh place finish at the ULM Fred Marx Invitational at DeSiard Country Club.
Schwienteck finished at 13-over par to finish tied with Moa Folke of Murray State for fourth place in the 70-golfer field. She posted rounds of 76-75-78 and finished second in the tournament in total birdies (8) and par 5 scoring (4.92). The Magnolia, Texas native previously finished fifth at the USA Intercollegiate in Mobile, Ala. and sixth at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, Calif.
As a team, UTA finished ahead of programs from Incarnate Word and Stephen F. Austin to post its third top 10 result among the first four tournaments in program history. Murray State claimed the team title at 50-over par, 19 strokes ahead of host ULM and 23 in front of South Alabama.
Lamar’s redshirt sophomore Elodie Chapelet, a native of Souraide, France, claimed medalist honors with a 7-stroke victory over runner-up Linette Holmslykke of Murray State and Scarlett Eaton of ULM.
Redshirt freshman Allison Wade (Arlington, Texas) posted the team’s second-lowest score with a 79 in today’s final round and finished tied for 34th place overall. Teammate Sydney Garber (Rockwall, Texas), playing as an individual, posted her best collegiate finish with a tie for 36th overall at 30-over par.
Kate Tran (Arlington, Texas) also posted her best finish as a Maverick, placing in a tie for 43rd place, while Madigan Murray (McKinney, Texas) moved up three spots from yesterday to finish tied for 48th. Junior Rachel Phillips (Plano, Texas) concluded the tournament in a tie for 55th overall.
The Mavericks will conclude their inaugural fall season in just less than two weeks at the Little Rock Women’s Golf Classic, scheduled for Oct. 29-31 at Diamante Country Club in Hot Springs Village, Ark. The team will resume its season on Feb. 12 at the Texas State Invitational.
