Box Score

AUSTIN, Texas...A two-out RBI double by Texas' Megan Willis lifted the Longhorns past UTA in the bottom of the eighth inning as Texas earned a 2-1 decision in the nightcap at the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational. UTA fell earlier in the day, 5-2, to Houston.

UTA took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning after Autumn Petrino walked to open the inning and stole second to put herself in scoring position. An error by the Longhorn shortstop allowed Dee Jay Nelson to reach first while Petrino advanced to third. Petrino would come home on a second Longhorn error to put the Lady Mavs ahead.

Texas answered quickly in the bottom of the frame after a lead off double to center from Tamara Poppe and a Chez Sievers single tied the game at one.

The squads remained deadlocked through three straight before Texas pushed a run across in the bottom of the eighth.

UTA's Jill Garro tossed the complete game, striking out four in 7.2 innings of work. Amy Bradford picked up the win for Texas after striking out 12 and being touched for only three hits in 8.0 innings.

Falon Kwasnick and Amanda Haney combined for the Lady Mavs only three hits in the contest.

Texas-Arlington returns to action Saturday at 10 a.m. as it squares off with Southland Conference foe Sam Houston State. Live stats are available at www.TexasSports.com.
