HONOLULU, Hawaii - Despite losing two games on Saturday, the UTA softball team advanced to the bracket play at the Oceanic Time Warner Cable Hawaii Paradise Classic on Sunday.

UTA (1-4) will be the fourth-seed and will meet Southern Missisiippi (1-4) in the quarterfinal game. The winenr will meet top-seed Hawaii. No. 2 seed Loyola Marymount will face third-seed Texas State in the other semifinal.

On Sturday, UTA dropped a 3-1 decision to SLC_rival Texas State.

The game was a pitchering duel between Mavs' senior Jill Garro and Texas State's Sarah Lancour. Each tossed scoreless softball until the eighth inning. Using the international tiebreaker, Texas State got a two-run double to center field from freshman Alex Newton fof the games' first runs.

The `Cats added another run on a Karen Taylor single down the third base line that scored Jill Kloesel and gave the Bobcats a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom half of the inning, UTA cut the lead to 3-1 when Autumn Petrino singled to right field, scoring Adika Snider.

The Bobcat defense stood their ground and forced UTA into consecutive fly outs, ending the game with the Bobcats on top, 3-1.

Garro (0-2) scattered seven hits and struck out eight. Lancour (1-1) also allowed seven hits and fanned 13 batters.
