Garcia knocked her second home run of the season as she led the Mavs (5-2) with a three-hit effort in Game 1 against Providence, driving in three runs and crossing the plate once in a 5-1 win. Wright knocked the game-winning home run in the sixth in the team's finale to top Jacksonville 3-1.
"It was perfect timing," UTA coach Peejay Brun said. "A lot of people have been hitting the ball well. We have been focusing on our bats a little bit and they have been doinga great job in seeing the ball well. They are doing a great job in getting good hits."
Randi Phillips was a rock in the circle as the freshman pitched all 14 innings, having just two earned runs come across against her. Phillips struck out four in picking up a pair of wins to move to 2-1 on the season.
"It was extremely impressive," Brun said of her starter. "We weren't sure what we were going to do today and we were just going to let her go as long as she could. She kept the pitch count down in the first game so we were confident in her in the second game."
GAME 1: UTA 5, Providence 1
Garcia got the UTA offense going in the first as her single through the right side would bring home Laura Curry. Avery Grimes doubled the lead in the second as her single brought home Bryanna Datko. UTA made it three consecutive innings with a run on Garcia's solo shot with two outs in the third.
A long fifth resumed scoring on the Maverick front with two errors helping a long two runs scored on a pair of hits. Garcia knocked her third of the day to bring in Sandra Mendoza, while Wright's double into left made it a 5-0 lead. Providence would score a run in the bottom half, and left the bases loaded in the seventh to end the game.
GAME 2: UTA 3, Jacksonville 1
With Phillips keeping Jacksonville off the board except for one blemish in the fourth, UTA's offense had trouble getitng going as it had just one hit going into the crucial sixth.
With one out, Garcia got things going on a single into right center and Bri Burchianti followed it up with a walk to bring up Wright. Wright powered a hard-hit ball over the left-centerfield wall to push the Mavs into the lead.
The Dolphins would go down in order in the final frame to clinch the UTA win.
