SHOCKERS EDGE PAST TEXAS-ARLINGTON, 3-1

DENTON, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington Lady Mavericks managed only three hits off Wichita State's ace Lindsay Craig as the Shockers handed UTA a 3-1 loss Friday morning at the North Texas / Beltin Round-Up in Denton. With the loss, UTA falls to 2-6-1 on the year while WSU evens its season at 3-3.
WSU got on the board first, plating one run on a two out double to right center in the bototm of the fourth.
The Shockers added two runs in the bottom of the fifth on back-to-back RBI singles to push their lead to three runs.
After Jones reached on an error by the Shockers' first baseman, she advanced to second on a ground out before scoring on freshman Courtni Anderson's bloop single to right. Jenna Fortune followed with a single to right center and pinch runner Katie Singleton stole third to put runners on the corners for UTA. The threat was ended as Craig collected her eighth strike out of the day to escape the inning.
Falon Kwasnick (0-2) was tagged with the loss after giving up three earned runs and striking out four in a complete game effort. UTA's offense struggled as the Lady Mavs could only manage three hits in the contest.
Texas-Arlington returns to action this afternoon at 12:30 p.m. against New Mexico at Denia Park in Denton.
