ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington softball opened the UTA Hilton Invitational with a 4-1 loss to Texas Tech Thursday night at Allan Saxe Field.
"I don't think we struggled very much," UT Arlington coach Kristie Fox said. "We had opportunities and we didn't take them. We competed hard and I wouldn't call it a struggle by any means. We put the ball in play and it just didn't fall our way. We had one bad pitch and that was the difference between a win and a loss."
UT Arlington drops to 7-5 overall with Texas Tech improving to 7-4 on the season.
Shannon Carrico gave up four runs on eight hits and four walks, while striking out four. Carrico drops to 4-2.
The Red Raiders got things started early with a run in the top of the first inning to take the 1-0 lead. The Mavericks battled back when Meagan Michele drove in Britnea Barilli to tie the game.
A three-run home run in the top of the fifth gave Texas Tech the lead and win. UT Arlington finished with five hits and three walks.
The UTA Hilton Invitational will continue Friday when Texas Tech takes on Creighton at 2 p.m.
