TEXAS-ARLINGTON SOFTBALL EDGES PAST SOUTHWEST MISSOURI STATE, 3-2

DENTON, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington Lady Mavericks edged past Southwest Missouri State Saturday afternoon to defeat the Bears, 3-2, at the North Texas/Beltin Round-Up. With the win, UTA improves to 4-7-1 on the season while SMS falls to 3-5.
The Lady Mavericks offense improved, collecting six hits on the day. Sophomore Autumn Petrino paced UTA with two hits, a run scored and a RBI. Pitcher Jill Garro pushed her hit streak to two games, collecting a hit and RBI against the Bears.
UTA plated two runs in the top of the sixth frame, and added an insurance run in the seventh to seal its fourth win of the season.
Garro tossed her second complete game of the day, striking out 11. Both SMS's runs were unearned as the Lady Mavericks defense struggled, committing three errors in the contest.
Texas-Arlington will return to action Sunday on the final day of the tournament. UTA will face Creighton at 12:30 p.m. before facing off with host North Texas at 5:30 p.m.
