ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington softball closed out the 2007 UTA Round Robin with a 2-0 win over Pittsburgh on Sunday at Allan Saxe Field. Pitt won the first game of the day 8-0 over Prairie View A&M.
Pitt (2-7) threatened to score in the top of the second with the bases loaded and no outs, but freshman right hander Heather Fortenberry stuck out the next two Panther batters and forced the third to pop up to Amanda Swofford at short stop.
Designated player Courtni Anderson hit her first home run of the season to extend the Mavericks lead to two (2-0) in the bottom of the sixth. The Panthers went down in order in the top of the seventh to give UTA its ninth win of the season.
The Mavs will return to action when they host Texas State for both teams conference opener on Tuesday. The three game series will begin with the first game of a double header at 4 p.m. at Allan Saxe Field. The Mavericks and Bobcats will close out the series with the third game on Wed. at 1 p.m.
