LAKE CHARLES, La. - Sophomore Lauren Hebert tossed her second career one-hitter as Texas-Arlington blanked McNeese State 4-0 in the nightcap of Saturday's Southland Conference doubleheader. The Lady Mavericks dropped game one, 2-1, in nine innings.
UTA (5-8, 1-1) opened the game with back-to-back singles from April Clougherty and Brittany Stevens and Autumn Petrino advanced both runners with a sacrifice. Dee Jay Nelson knocked a two-RBI single to put the Lady Mavs in front.
A Petrino double and Nelson single in the top of the fifth pushed the Lady Mavericks advantage to four.
Hebert (2-2) carried a no-hitter into the seventh before reigning SLC Hitter of the Week Beth Jordan spoiled it with a single. Hebert tossed her second complete game shutout, striking out seven and walking two.
Nelson, Clougherty and Kathleen Bradshaw led the offense for the Lady Mavs with two hits apiece.
McNeese State's Jana James fell to 1-4 with the loss after allowing four runs on eight hits in a complete game effort.
