March 2, 2005
ARLINGTON, Texas - A two-out rally in the third inning and five runs in the fifth led No. 4 Texas to a 9-0 shut out win over Texas-Arlington (6-10) in the nightcap of Wednesday's doubleheader at Allan Saxe Field.
MicKayla Padilla started the Longhorn rally in the third with a bunt single and Tina Boutelle followed with a double to the wall in right center to plate the runner. A run-producing single, a walk and a two-RBI triple put Texas in front 4-0 before the Lady Mavericks escaped the frame.
UTA had two aboard in the fourth but UT starter Amy Bradford retired Amanda Brown to end the frame.
Texas struck again in the fifth, capitalizing on a one-out walk and two Lady Maverick error. After Desiree Williams walked and Wynter Turner singled and advanced to second on the throw, putting runners at second and third with only one out. A Kristin Moore error in left field led to two Longhorn runs before Jacqueline Williams scored on an error by UTA reliever Nikki Wilson. A Boutelle two-RBI double off the left center field wall rounded out the scoring and gave the Longhorns a 9-0 advantage.
Bradford improved to 3-0 on the year after holding UTA scoreless and allowing just four hits in four innings.
Texas-Arlington will return to action this weekend when it hosts Nicholls State for a three-game Southland Conference series at Allan Saxe Field. First pitch in Saturday's doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.
