THIBODEAUX, La. -UT Arlington softball fell 3-1 in its rubber match with Nicholls State on Sunday at the Colonels Softball Complex. Sophomore Brittany Washington hit her fourth home run of the season to tie it up in the fourth inning.
The Colonels (7-3, 2-4 SLC) struck first with a run in the bottom of the first inning as Danielle Clayton hit a double to center field that brought home Kodi Butler from third to make the score 1-0.
Washington brought the Mavs (5-10, 2-4 SLC) even in the fourth with her solo shot in the fourth, but Nicholls went up for good in the fifth after an erratic two-error play that scored Nicole Smith.
Amy Thibodeaux hit a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth to seal the 3-1 win for the Colonels.
Senior Laura Jones (2-6) took the loss for the Mavs in 5.2 innings of work, while Lacey Gros (2-2) picks up the complete game win for the Colonels.
UTA will continue SLC play with its home opener on March 8 against UTSA with the first game of the doubleheader at 1 p.m. at Allan Saxe Field
