ARLINGTON, Texas - Senior Teri Lyles turned in an outstanding all-around performance, firing her first career no-hitter and scoring twice as UT Arlington (8-7) shut out Creighton (8-6) by a 3-0 final in the consolation game of the UTA Softball Classic.
She struck out seven while walking three batters in earning her seventh win of the year against just two defeats.
"I'm very proud of Teri," head coach Kristie Fox said. "We came out with a better game plan against Creighton today and she executed it to perfection. I couldn't be prouder of her, especially with her leadership. She really is taking the team under her wing."
Lyles helped her own cause in the second, as she doubled and scored on a Taylor Zink RBI single.
UTA manufactured a run in the fourth without the benefit of a hit. Lyles walked, then scored all the way from first on a Zink ground ball courtesy of throwing errors by Creighton's shortstop and first baseman.
It was the third shutout of the season for UTA. The Mavericks completed the three-day tournament with a 2-3 record.
