SAN ANTONIO, Texas - UT Arlington softball fell 10-2 to UT San Antonio in the rubber game, Sunday afternoon at Roadrunner Field. The Mavericks move to 3-3 in Southland Conference action and 12-10 overall while the Roadrunners improve to 9-12 and 4-2.
Junior Laura Jones, who shut out the Roadrunners in game two Saturday, took the loss (4-4), allowing eight earned runs on eight hits. Left fielder Katie Jones led the Mavericks at the plate, going 2-for-3.
The Roadrunners struck in the bottom of the first on a Leanne Risberg grand slam just inside the left field foul pole. UTSA added a run in the second on a double steal as junior Lindsay Perry, who reached on a fielder's choice, took home after a throw down to second to catch freshman Rudi Cantu was not in time.
Home runs by Jessica Rogers and Catherine Garza increased the Roadrunners lead to 8-0 in the bottom of the third.
UTA got on the board in the top of the fourth on a pinch hit solo homer to left by freshman Brittany Washington, her second of the season. The Mavericks tacked on a run in the fifth on a run-scoring single to left center by catcher Courtni Anderson that scored center fielder April Clougherty, who reached on an error.
The Roadrunners forced the eight-run rule in the bottom of the sixth as back-to-back doubles by Rudi Cantu and Kourtney Jones set the table for Rogers, who singled up the middle to score Jones with the 10th run of the game.
UTA will be back in action on Wednesday as it plays host to Centenary for a single game at 6 p.m.
