March 12, 2005
ARLINGTON, Texas - Northwestern State held the Lady Mavericks offense at bay as the Demons dropped UTA 6-2 Saturday afternoon in game one of a Southland Conference doubleheader at Allan Saxe Field.
A lead off double, a sacrifice bunt and a Serena Noack RBI groundout gave the Demons a 1-0 advantage in the third. Northwestern added two runs in the fourth with a double steal and an Amanda Walker bloop single to left.
The Demons broke the game open in the seventh after loading the bases with nobody out. Shay Hunt and Amanda Glenn each knocked RBI singles and Lyndsey Gorski pushed the final run across with a grounder to second base.
UTA rallied in the seventh as Courtni Anderson knocked a lead off double and came around on a Dee Jay Nelson single over the head of the NSU third baseman, cutting the Demons lead to four. One run was all the Lady Mavs could manage as Autumn Petrino flew out to end the inning.
Loni Rasberry was touched for six hits and two runs in a complete game effort as she improved to 8-3 on the season.
Jill Garro was tagged with the loss for UTA after allowing six runs (four earned) on nine hits.
