The UT Arlington softball team pounced on the Tigers of Grambling State with a 14-0 victory Friday afternoon in Louisiana.
Junior Teri Lyles pitched a great game allowing only one hit and two walks for the day.
Although both teams were swinging the bat, neither team would score for the first three innings.
The Mavericks continued swinging the bat, picking up six hits and five runs in the top of the fifth giving UTA a 6-0 lead over Grambling State.
Stephanie Gonzalez hit a three-run home run in the top of the sixth. The Mavericks also tacked on five more runs in the inning to give them a 14-0 lead and the win.
"It felt good to hit the ball hard and put runs on the board," UT Arlington head coach Debbie Hedrick said. "Hopefully this game gives us momentum for conference play."
UT Arlington heads to Louisiana Tech for a doubleheader Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
