ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington struggled against future WAC opponent Louisiana Tech as the Mavericks fell 2-1 and 0-8 against the Bulldogs.
Sophomore Callie Collins pitched all six innings in the first game of the doubleheader allowing five hits, four walks and just two runs.
Louisiana Tech took the lead early when junior Janna Frandrup singled to center field in the bottom of the first inning.
It did not take long for the Bulldogs to take the lead back after a one-run inning in the bottom of the third inning.
Louisiana Tech used their momentum from the first game to shutout the Mavericks in game two. The Bulldogs picked up two doubles and a home run in their second win of the day over UTA.
"We're not playing well right now," UT Arlington coach Debbie Hedrick said. "All we can do, and will do is keep practicing and making adjustments until we turn it around."
UT Arlington will have Sunday off and will resume play Monday as they host Southland Conference opponent Nicholls State for their first conference game of the season. The Mavericks will face the Colonels in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
