LADY MAVS SWING BATS IN 10-2 WIN OVER LOUISIANA-MONROE
March 21, 2004
ARLINGTON, Texas - Back-to-back four run innings for The University of Texas at Arlington led the Lady Mavericks to a 10-2 debacle of Louisiana-Monroe in the final game of the three-game Southland Conference series Sunday afternoon. UTA improves to 12-15-1 and 7-4 in the league.
ULM struck first after a lead off walk came back to haunt the Lady Mavs. After being sacrificed to second, Heather Hanson crossed the plate on a single by Amy Parker to give ULM an early 1-0 lead.
Katie Singleton drew a one-out walk to start the Lady Mavericks offense in the bottom of the frame. After two wild pitches put Singleton on third base, Autumn Petrino put runners on the corners with a bunt single. Beverly Rowan tied the game with a run-producing single up the middle. A sacrifice fly to center field by Amanda Haney plated the second run of the inning before a two-RBI single by Courtni Anderson cleared the bases and put UTA in front 4-1.
After two singles and a walk, ULM plated one run in the top of the second to pull within two of the Lady Mavs.
UTA continued its attack in the second, scoring four runs for the second straight frame. A walk, two straight singles and back-to-back doubles from Jenna Fortune and Haney gave the Lady Mavericks a commanding 8-2 lead after two complete.
The Lady Mavs added their final runs on the day after a Petrino single and Rowan double put UTA ahead by eight and ended the game due to the mercy rule.
Jill Garro was touched for five hits in 6.0 innings as she improved to 10-8 on the year. Petrino and Rowan paced the Lady Mavs offense with three hits apiece while Fortune added two.
Texas-Arlington will return to action Tuesday evening for a 7 p.m. single game at North Texas in Denton.
