SB: No. 13 South Alabama out runs Mavs
March 22, 2014
MOBILE, Alabama – UT Arlington dropped the first two games against No. 13 South Alabama to open Sun Belt Conference action Saturday.
"USA does have strong pitching, but we didn't attack strikes, we were very passive both games," UT Arlington coach Kristie Fox said. "The team's entire mentality has to change, not just at the plate. We aren't playing the game with any fire in our gut."
The Mavericks drop to 14-17 on the season and 0-2 in league play. UT Arlington closes out the first weekend of SBC action Sunday at 12 p.m.
South Alabama 9, UT Arlington 0 (5)
The Jaguars ran out to an early lead, scoring three runs off of two hits and two UTA errors in the bottom of the first inning. UTA put two runners on in the second off a hit and a walk, but a three-pitch strikeout to Shelbi Sikes ended the inning.
USA scored on a sacrifice fly to short right center in the third to extend its lead 4-0.
After loading the bases with one out in the fourth inning, redshirt freshman Brittany May replaced Callie Collins in the circle. May gave up three hits to score five Jags as USA led 9-0.
