UTA vs. Georgia Southern
Allan Saxe Field | March 25, 2017
Game 1: Georgia Southern 11, UTA 3 (5)
Game 2: UTA 9, Georgia Southern 8 (10)
UTA coach Kristie Fox
Overall outlook on the doubleheader
"The girls did a good job of competing in the second game. We had a couple of innings in both games that hurt us and we have to be able to stop the bleeding earlier in those innings, but as far as never quitting I am really proud of this bunch and making sure we got the split today is huge. It gives us the opportunity to play tomorrow. Overall the girls did a good job of fighting. We need the pitching staff to get refreshed, we will really need them tomorrow."
On the depth that showed in Game 2
"It is exciting because the future is really bright. Those kids really stepped up and I loved all of the people coming off the bench and contributing. I think that shows the depth of the team, even in the bench. There are even a few more that we can give opportunities to. Overall, they are doing a good job in stepping up when the opportunity is brought to them."
Freshman DP Aileen Garcia
On the game-winning play
"I can't say I wasn't expecting it. It was the same thing that happened last week, so I stay ready for anything."
On coming up in a big situation
"The team believes in me and that gives me a lot of confidence. It is really big that they leave me up to it."
On coming back multiple times to get the win
"It feels good. We are definitely going to try to carry it over into tomorrow to try to win the series."
Freshman infielder Whitney Walton
On her offensive success on Saturday
"I was just looking for anything close and anything to move the runners around. I was focusing on keeping the ball down and if they make mistakes that works for us."
On what she saw from the team today
"I saw a lot of fight. We got down by five runs and it didn't even phase us. They were saying it was their house, and that struck a nerve in us."
