"We didn't play defense and we didn't come up with key hits and it's difficult to win like that no matter who you are," UT Arlington coach Kristie Fox said.
The Mavericks fell to 14-21 overall and 0-6 in Sun Belt Conference play after losing their seventh in a row. The Lady Toppers improved to 23-10-1 and 6-0 in the Sun Belt. UTA returns to action on April 5 when the Mavs travel to face Georgia State.
WKU's leadoff hitter reached on an error and scored on another error two batters later.
A hit-by-pitch opened up the third inning and a throwing error by senior pitcher Callie Collins put runners on second and third for WKU with no out. The Lady Toppers extended the lead to 3-0 in the next at-bat with a single to center that scored both.
The Mavericks provided a quick answer with a pair of their own in the bottom half. Nina Villanueva connected on her fifth homer -- a two-run shot to left -- with two outs.
The Lady Toppers added a run in the fifth to lead 4-2 and the Mavericks were unable to inch any closer.
