LADY MAVERICKS SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER AT ULM

MONROE, La. - The University of Texas at Arlington softball squad kept its postseason hopes alive, sweeping a doubleheader at Southland Conference foe Louisiana-Monroe Saturday afternoon. The Lady Mavericks claimed the series opener by a 6-1 count and edged past ULM, 3-2, in the nightcap.
UTA never trailed in game one after using three straight doubles to plate two runs in the opening frame.
Jill Garro earned the win for UTA after tossing her 12th complete game of the season. Garro was touched for seven hits while striking out five.
The Lady Mavericks used a three-run fourth to edge past the host Indians in the nightcap. Trailing 2-0, Nelson led off the frame with a single and Autumn Petrino knocked a double to left center before Jenna Fortune connected for a two-RBI single to even the score. Courtni Anderson gave UTA the advantage with a RBI fielder's choice.
Garro, tossing in a relief effort, held ULM scoreless through the final four frames allowing just one hit to earn her second win of the afternoon.
Moore led the Lady Mavs with a three-for-four plate performance in the opening game. Nelson chipped in with two hits and added one in the nightcap.
The squads will play the series finale Sunday at 1 p.m.
