ARLINGTON, Texas-- Brittany Washington homered in the opener and Whitney Simpson went deep in the second game, powering UT Arlington to a doubleheader sweep against Prairie View A&M in non-conference softball action Wednesday at Allan Saxe Field.
The Mavericks (15-16) improved to 7-0 all-time against the Panthers (6-20) with a 12-4 mercy-rule victory in the first game and a 3-0 shutout in the nightcap. UTA pounded out a combined 21 hits and allowed only seven.

Christina Allen singled, moved to second on a walk by Katie Jones and scored the day's first run on a double by Rebecca Collom. After Jones came home and Collom moved to third on a wild pitch, Heather Fortenberry drove in Collom with a sacrifice fly to right.
The Panthers roared back in the second inning to take a 4-3 lead with their first runs ever against the Mavericks.
