NELSON'S HOMER SPARKS MAVS TO WIN
April 4, 2006
First baseman Dee Jay Nelson hit her fourth home run in the last six games - a two-run homer to left field in the bottom of the first inning - and that was all the run support starter Jill Garro would need as UT Arlington defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 4-1 in college softball play Tuesday afternoon.
UTA (20-12) got a solid outing from Garro who held the Islanders to two singles and no walks in the game.
Nelson's home run leaves her one shy of tying the school's single-season record set by Elizabeth Harsma in 1998.
UTA got a pair of runs in the fifth inning off three hits. Kristin Moore hit her first triple of her career with one out. After Courtney Anderson walked, Amanda Swofford singled to shortstop to score Moore for a 3-1 lead. Autumn Petrino double to left field to score Anderson for the final score.
UTA continues its 10-game homestand Saturday when they host Louisiana-Monroe in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
