LAKE CHARLES, La. - UT Arlington softball fell to the McNeese State Cowgirls 3-2 in Lake Charles, La. Saturday afternoon.

After losing the series against the Cowgirls, the Mavericks fall to 12-18 overall and 2-6 in Southland Conference play.

The Mavericks started the game well scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Sophomore Stephanie Gonzalez and senior Courtney Zink were the only Mavericks who made it around the bases in the first inning as well as the rest of the game.

“We have a set goal to make the tournament and it is not out of sight so we will continue to battle through this,” UT Arlington senior and second baseman Courtney Zink said about the Mavericks close loss.

The Cowgirls scored one run in the second, third and fourth inning allowing McNeese State to take their second win of the season against the Mavericks.

Callie Collins and Teri Lyles pitched for UT Arlington. Together they allowed just four hits and two walks, but it wasn’t enough for the Mavericks to pick up another win.

The Mavericks head home for a two game series next weekend against the Northeastern State Lady Demons.
