STATESBORO, Ga. - Sophomore Reagan Wright continued to swing a hot bat, driving in three runs in Game 1 to help UT Arlington split a Saturday doubleheader at Eagle Park against Georgia Southern.

The Mavericks (21-19, 9-7) picked up a 4-2 win in Game 1, but fell in a defensive battle in Game 2 as two solo home runs lifted the host to a 2-0 victory. The teams will conclude the three-game Sun Belt set on Sunday at 8 a.m. CT, first pitch time changed due to anticipated rain on Sunday in Georgia.

Wright's two-run homer in Game 1 provided the catcher with her sixth home run in the last seven games, as well as tied her for ninth in UTA history with 14 in her career. Wright finished with three of the team's four RBI. Sandra Mendoza extended her hitting streak to 13 games with a hit in the opener, but saw it end as she was 0-for-2 at the plate in the finale. Reaching on a walk in Game 2, her reaching safely streak moved to a team season-high 14 games.

Wright joined Laura Curry in pushing their reaching safe streak into double figures. Wright knocked a single up the middle in Game 2, while Curry walked twice in the first - scoring a run - and added a hit in the second.

Randi Phillips tossed five innings in relief to pick up the Game 1 win. She moved to 12-8 overall, allowing three hits, three walks and striking out two, while the lone run against came in unearned.

With both games being relatively low scoring, missed opportunities saw both teams strand several on base. UTA left nine on base in the Game 1 victory and another six in the second, despite only two hits.

It was a day of solo home runs for Georgia Southern as the Eagles started off their offensive efforts with a blast to right from the top of the lineup. The Mavs would not be able to provide an answer in the second, stranding two, but a big third set the stage for Wright to push UTA into the lead. After Curry walked and stole second, a single up the middle tied the game at 1-1 with Walton picking up the RBI. Wright needed to see just two pitches before she sent the third over the left-field wall for a 3-1 lead.

The Eagles came back in the bottom half to cut into the lead as an error allowed a run to come in.

It was Wright again in the fifth, as two hits equaled an RBI hit from the UTA catcher went up the middle to bring in Walton.

Georgia Southern saw its opportunity to come back squandered in the sixth, leaving the bases loaded, and another in the seventh as one of three double plays helped send the Eagles in order to end the opener.

After UTA left the bases loaded in the top of the fifth of Game 2, the Eagles made the Mavs pay with the second solo homer in the series, a shot to right on a 2-0 count. The home team added another in the sixth, and a double play ground out in the seventh closed out Day 1 action in Statesboro.
