NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin's Crista Hargrove doubled to left field in the bottom of the sixth inning to plate the eventual game winning run as Stephen F. Austin edged past Texas-Arlington 4-3 Sunday afternoon at Coy Simms Complex. The Lady Mavericks swept Saturday's doubleheader by scores of 1-0 and 2-1.
UTA got on the board first as Autumn Petrino reached on a two-out error by the pitcher. Beverly Rowan followed with a single to right center to put runners on the corners with two outs. After Jenna Fortune earned a walk to load the bases, Amanda Haney knocked a two-RBI single to put the Lady Mavs in front 2-0.
The Ladyjacks answered in the bottom of the frame, plating one run on a RBI single by Carrie Woydziak.
April Jones led off the UTA fourth with a single and a stolen base before coming home on a sac fly by Rowan.
SFA added two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to go ahead 4-3 heading into the final frame.
UTA's Jill Garro (13-12) was tagged with the loss after allowing four earned runs on five hits in 5.0 innings of work.
Texas-Arlington will return to action Wednesday when it plays host to North Texas at Allan Saxe Field. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
