ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington split Day 1 against ULM to begin a three-game Sun Belt Conference series at Allan Saxe Field.
The Mavericks (18-26, 3-10 SBC) won 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh in the first game, but ULM's 16 hits and three homers proved too much for UTA in the second game.
"I'n the first game Callie (Collins) did a good job in hitting her spots," UT Arlington coach Kristie Fox said. "They did a lot of small ball in the first game in the first game and it didn't work but they stuck with it and it worked in the second."
The teams conclude the three-game series on Saturday at 1 p.m.

UTA senior Callie Collins improved to 10-10 on the season, dropping her ERA to 2.78 in 134 innings pitched.
ULM came up with a solo shot over the left-field wall to make it a 2-1 ball game in the second inning.
ULM scored in the fourth to tie the game 4-4.
In the bottom of the seventh Michele singled on her 13th pitch with a 2-2 count to score Barilli for the winning run.
Game 2 - ULM 11, UT Arlington 3 (6) | Final Stats
UTA sophomore Shannon Carrico made her 19th start of the season, giving up eight runs on 13 hits to the Warhakws.
In the top of the first ULM hit a sacrifice fly to take the early 1-0 lead. UTA freshman Riley Fira hit her first career homer home run in the second, a shot to center tying the game 1-1.
The Warhawks scored one run off of four hits in the third to reclaim the lead 2-1.
Nina Villanueva hit a ground ball past into left to score Barilli from second base to tied the game 2-2 in the third.
The Warhawks regained control with a three three-run homers and cruised to the win.
