ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington (13-25, 3-13 SLC) fell to the Sam Houston State Bearkats (26-17, 14-4 SLC) 10-7 in eight Saturday afternoon at Allan Saxe Field.
Four of Sam Houston State’s runs came in the fourth inning. The Bearkats drove in their first run when Alyssa Gregg singled to left field. The Bearkats tacked on three more runs while picking up five hits in the inning.
UT Arlington also picked up a run in the fourth when Rachel Forshaw doubled to left center and Kersti Rowan scored. The Mavericks scored in the bottom of the fifth when Hillary Steed singled to left field and Kallan Thompson picked up a run.
Each team picked up three runs in sixth inning, giving the Bearkats the 6-4 lead heading into the seventh. Sam Houston State drove one run across the plate in the top of the seventh, leading UTA 7-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh.
UT Arlington wasn’t ready to give up yet as the Mavericks picked up three runs on the bottom of the seventh to tie the game 7-7. The Bearkats drove in three runs in the top of the eighth and the Mavericks we not able to answer back.
The Mavericks completed the game with thirteen hits, seven runs and one error. Courtney Zink, Erica LeFlore, Rachel Forshaw and Teri Lyles all finished the day batting two-for-four against the Bearkats. Callie Collins walked four batters and struck out two.
UTA is back on the field Sunday as the take on Nicholls State in a doubleheader at Allan Saxe Field beginning at 1 p.m.
