CONWAY, Ark - UT Arlington clinched the series sweep of Central Arkansas with three solo home runs, including two by shortstop Amanda Swofford, for the 5-1 win in SLC action on Sunday.
The Mavericks (34-14, 19-5) first run came in the top of the second when Swofford led the inning off with a blast to center field. The Bears (15-40, 5-22) tied the game in the bottom of the second when junior shortstop Janae Owens hit a long shot that left fielder Katie Jones nearly snagged at the fence.
Jones led the next inning off with a blast of her own to put the Mavs up 2-1. Then the fifth inning, UTA went up 3-1 on a wild pitch by UCA's Lyndsey Harris.
Swofford kicked off the sixth with a solo homer, her second of the game and later in the frame right fielder, Kristin Moore hit a double to left center to plate Brittany Washington and give UTA the 5-1 advantage.
Swofford and Jones ended the game with two hits and two runs each for the Mavs. Junior Laura Jones (14-4) picked up the win by striking out three and allowing four hits and a run in four innings while freshman Cara Hulme came in for her second save of the year, going three innings and allowing two hits, two walks and two strikeouts.
