ARLINGOTN, Texas - The Mavericks take two from Nicholls State in a doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Allan Saxe Field.
UTA defeated the Nicholls State Colonels in their first game 2-0 and took the win again over the Colonels 2-1 in game two.
The Mavericks picked up their first run of the game when pitcher Teri Lyles homered to left field in the bottom of the second inning. Hillary Steed singled to left field, driving in Courtney Zink for a 2-0 lead in the third inning for the Mavericks.
Senior Courtney Zink went two-for-three with one run against the Colonels. Teri Lyles went one-for –three with one run and one RBI. Teri Lyles allowed five hits with three strikeouts in seven innings.
In game two Stephanie Gonzalez and Hillary Steed each went one-for-three with one run for the Mavericks. Callie Collins gave up five hits and one walk with two strikeouts in seven innings against Nicholls.
UT Arlington will head to Hammond, Louisiana to take on the Southeastern Louisiana Lions Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday at noon.
