LADY MAVERICKS LAND THREE ON ALL-SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE PRESEASON TEAMS
Jan. 21, 2004
ARLINGTON, Texas - Three Texas-Arlington softball players were named to the All-Southland Conference preseason second team, the league announced Wednesday. Sophomores Jill Garro, Falon Kwasnick and Beverly Rowan all earned second team honors.
The two preseason softball teams consist of players who were first or second team all-SLC following the 2003 campaign and are returning for the upcoming season. Third team selections are named preseason all-conference if vacant positions remain after first and second-team picks have been filled. Any vacant positions are nominated and voted on by the conference's head coaches.
Garro, a second team selection in 2003, returns to the circle after holding opponents to a 1.83 earned run average in her collegiate debut.
Kwasnick earned second team honors in 2003 after leading her squad in runs scored, hits and doubles. The freshman also held a .998 fielding percentage at first base.
Rowan, the reigning SLC utility player of the year, returns to the Lady Mavs after spliting time between catcher, designated player and outfield in 2003. Rowan earned second team honors as a designated player and third team honors as an outfielder in her freshman campaign.
The defending SLC champion Lady Mavericks will open the 2004 season on February 6 at the Texas Invitational in Austin.
