ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington senior pitcher Callie Collins and junior infielder Nina Villanueva received recognition in the College Sports Madness 2013-14 Sun Belt Preseason All-Conference softball team. Both players are on the second team.

Collins started in 25 games last season and posted a 4-15 record. Collins had a 2.64 ERA in the 146 innings pitched. She finished the season with 141 strikeouts and three saves. She pitched 14 complete games and also earned academic All-WAC honors for her junior season.

"I expect our defense to be stronger behind her, and offense to support her so she can go out and compete without worrying about trying to throw a shut out every game," UT Arlington coach Kristie Fox said.

Villanueva, a shortstop last season, is entering her junior season after  first-team All-WAC and WAC all-tournament team honors. She batted .328 in 43 games, placing 10th in WAC. She also tied for team lead in multi-hit games with 14.

"Nina had the best year for our team, average-wise in conference last year," Fox said. "She has continued to work on becoming a smart competitor at the plate and really take advantage of her opportunities."

The Mavericks open the 2014 season home season Feb. 14 at Allan Saxe Field with the UTA Maverick Invitational.
