ARLINGTON, Texas -
The UT Arlington softball outfield will rely on the experience of two returners and two newcomers. The team kicks off its 2013 season in Orlando, Fla. at the UCF Holiday Inn Select Tournament on Feb. 15.

Senior Kallan Thompson and junior Taylor Zink will mentor freshmen Britnea Barilli and Jolene Schaefer in the Maverick outfield this season. Thompson and Zink will split time in right field while Schaefer will take over in center with Barilli in left.

In 2012, Thompson started 37 games and hit .176 with one double and triple. She was also 6-7 in stolen bases and recorded a .957 fielding percentage.

Zink started 27 games last season and notched two doubles while hitting .115 on the year. She was second on the team in put-outs with 111 and fielded .985 with only two errors.

Schaefer is a freshman from Grapevine and was a four-year letterwinner at Colleyville Heritage. She was a first-team All-District member from 2010-12.

Barilli, a freshman from Poway, Calif. attended Poway High School and broke the JV batting average record as a freshman.

UT Arlington will open the UCF Holiday Inn Select Tournament against Buffalo at 8:30 a.m. CST Friday, Feb. 15. For the complete 2013 softball schedule, please click here.
