ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington Mavericks will begin their 2013 season at the UCF Holiday Inn Select Tournament in Orlando, Fla. on Feb. 15.

The Mavs open the tournament against Buffalo on Friday, Feb. 15 at 8:30 a.m. UT Arlington is 1-0 all-time against the Bulls with a 4-3 win coming in Las Cruces, N.M. in 2007.

UTA will then face tournament host Central Florida at 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 15. The Mavs are 0-1 all-time against the Knights dropping 1-5 in Orlando, Fla. in 2009.

On Saturday, Feb. 16 the Mavericks play a doubleheader starting at 8 a.m. against Florida A&M. The second game will pit UTA against Stetson. The Mavs have never faced either team in program history.

On the final day of the tournament, UT Arlington will take on South Carolina at 8 a.m. This will mark the sixth meeting between the Mavs and the Gamecocks. UTA is 0-5 all-time against South Carolina falling 0-2 in the last meeting in Orlando, Fla. in 2009.

The 2013 UT Arlington softball team consists of eight returners and eight newcomers. Leading the way amongst the returners is senior pitcher Teri Lyles. Lyles was the only Maverick to earn end-of-season honors in 2012 as she was named to the All-Southland Conference second team. Lyles, along with sophomore transfer Nina Villanueva, was named to the 2013 preseason All-WAC team.

The Mavericks were picked to finish seventh in the 2013 WAC preseason coaches poll. Texas State sits atop the rankings with five first place votes.

Friday marks the first time head coach Kristie Fox will take the field at the helm of the Maverick softball program. A 2007 graduate from Arizona, Fox was a two-time All-American and national champion with the Wildcats.

UT Arlington softball opens the 2013 campaign with 21 of 27 preseason games on the road. The Mavs will have a home tournament March 1-3 and a midweek game against Baylor on March 20 before conference play begins. UTA will host Seattle in a three-game series to open WAC competition on March 22-23.
