Austin, Texas - The Mavericks dropped a pair of games against the University of Texas on Tuesday, February 17 at the McCombs Field in Austin, Texas. UTA fell 3-0 in game one and lost a 11-1 decision in game two.

UTA 0, Texas 3
In game one against the Longhorns, junior Cara Hulme took the mound for the Mavs, where she allowed three runs on 11 hits in six innings pitched.

UTA was silenced offensively by the Longhorns tough defense but UT on the other hand recorded runs in the first, fourth and sixth inning. The Longhorns first run of the game came when Loryn Johnson singled to right field, scoring Desiree Williams from second base, who reached on a single down the left field line earlier in the frame.

After two scoreless innings, the Mavericks threatened in the fourth with runners on first and second but were unable to connect on any runs.

Amy Hooks led the bottom of the fourth with a double to left center and later scored on a single by Williams to third base.

Back-to-back walks by Hulme in the sixth inning made way for an RBI single by Tallie Thrasher, giving the Longhorns a 3-0 advantage. UTA was shutout in the final frame with three straight outs.

Newcomers Erica LeFlore and Courtney Enocksen were the only Mavs to record hits against Texas.

UTA dropped game two of their double-header against the Longhorns 11-1. LeFlore drove in the Mavericks only run with a single to left field.

University of Texas recorded five runs on three hits in the second frame and plated six runs on five hits in the sixth inning. Rebecca Collom, LeFlore and Whitney Simpson were the only Mavericks to collect hits in game two.



Mavs hurler, Heather Fortenberry falls to 0-2 on the season after pitching 3.1 innings, allowing eight runs on six hits and striking out three.

The Mavericks return to the diamond when they host the three-day UT Arlington Tournament at the Allan Saxe Field beginning Friday, February 20. UTA takes on University of Missouri-Kansas City on Friday at 3 p.m.
