ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington is slated to begin a stretch of five games at Allan Saxe Field when it hosts Northwestern State on Wedneday at 2 p.m.
The Mavericks (6-4) are fresh off a strong weekend in Florida in which they went 3-2, picking up wins over Providence, Jacksonville U and Canisius. A strong effort from the rotation saw the team combine for a 1.44 ERA, allowing just seven runs through fives games. Randi Phillips had a big weekend with a 2-1 record in five appearances, earning a save.
Aileen Garcia led the offense with a .375 average, knocking six hits in 16 appearances. Garcia had a clutch three-hit game against Providence, nearly tying the programs single-game hits record.

UT Arlington and Northwestern State meet at Allan Saxe Field for the first time as nonconference foes as UTA and NWSU had previously battled in the Southland Conference. The matchup is the first since 2012 with UTA leading the all-time series 39-33. The Lady Demons features former pitcher Mariah Denson on the roster. UTA is 5-5 over the last 10 games, however, dropped the last meeting in 2012 2-0.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
Sandra Mendoza moved into 4th in UTA history for runs scored as she crossed once vs. TTU on Tuesday, she has 118 in her career. Mendoza entered the UTA top-10 with a double in Florida as she is tied for 9th with 85 in her career. Mendoza needs 1 double to move into 3rd alone as she has 37 in her career. She is 3 away from passing Tami Martens into second.
First baseman Garcia has reached safely in all 9 games this season. Whitney Walton had an 8-game streak cut short vs. North Florida. Walton and Reagan Wright had 5-game hitting streaks come to an end on Saturday.
HEAD COACH Peejay Brun
UTA coach Peejay Brun enters her first season at the helm of the Mavericks. Brun owns a 137-155-2 all-time record as a head coach after two seasons at Hawaii-Hilo and a stint at Sienna.
Brun brings 19 years of collegiate coaching experience to the Mavericks program, including six as a head coach. For nine of the last 11 seasons, she has served as an assistant coach at Texas State University.
A 1994 graduate of the University of Hawai'i, Brun comes to UTA following one season in her second stint as an assistant at Texas State after serving as the head coach at the University of Hawai'i at Hilo for two years. She led UH Hilo to a 63-33-1 overall record, a 41-19-1 record in the PacWest Conference.
Brun developed a NFCA All-America selection, eight all-league honorees and two all-region selections at UH Hilo. Eighteen student-athletes under her direction earned all-PacWest academic honors and six were named NFCA Academic All- America.
