Softball hosts conference series against Texas State

The UT Arlington softball team hosts its first conference series against Texas State Tuesday and Wednesday at Allan Saxe Field. UTA takes on the Bobcats in a double header Tuesday at 4 and 6 p.m. and wrap up the series with a 2 p.m. start on Wednesday.
The Mavericks enter Tuesday match up with an 8-7 overall record. UT Arlington finished the UTA Classic with a 3-2 record, earning a pair of wins against Centenary and a victory against Creighton.
Freshman Callie Collins improved her record to 5-1 in the pitching circle and went 3-0 in the UTA Classic... Collins recorded a pair of wins against Centenary and a win against Creighton. The freshman finished the tournament with a 0.74 ERA in 19 innings pitched and recorded 34 strikeouts. She also held her opponents to a .183 batting average. Collins recorded a season-high 15 strikeouts against Centenary and followed that performance with 12 K's against Creighton.
Rebecca Collom finished the tournament batting .400 for the Mavs. The senior connected on six hits which included a home run (29th of her career), double and drove in two RBI.
UT Arlington leads the all-time series against the Bobcats 53-42. The Mavericks have failed to come up with a win in the last four meetings against Texas State. The last time the Mavs recorded a win was at the Texas State Tournament on February 14, 2010, 10-7.
The last time the two teams went head-to-head was at the Southland Conference Tournament where the Bobcats eliminated UT Arlington in the final day, 4-1 on May 15, 2010.
