ARLINGTON, Texas - After Mother Nature has rewritten the UT Arlington schedule the last few weeks, a short trip up I-35 looks to provide a clear weekend of play in a tournament hosted by North Texas on Friday.
The Mavericks (7-6) are set for their final tuneup before Sun Belt Conference play begins next weekend at South Alabama. The Mavs will take on Nicholls to open the weekend at 4 p.m. on Friday at Lovelace Field. Action continues on Saturday with a pair of games against Tulsa and North Texas, while action concludes against the same pair of teams on Sunday.
UTA is coming off a weekend that saw the Mavs go 1-2 in their home tournament with games against DePaul and Sam Houston State. Madison Miller powered her first-career homerun against the Blue Demons, a game winner in the eighth inning.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
Aileen Garcia saw her 9-game reaching safely streak come to an end in Game 1 of the tournament against DePaul. Garcia leads the team with 2 3-hit games. Krista Rude has a team season-high 6-game hitting streak. Rude has reached safely in the last 7 games. Whitney Walton, out last weekend, leads the Mavs with a .303 batting average. Reagan Wright is the lone Mav joining Walton above .300, hitting exactly that. Walton is the lone Maverick with a triple this season.
Krista Rude leads the team with 7 runs scored, while Rude and Sandra Mendoza lead with 11 hits. Bri Burchianti is 59th in the nation in toughest to strikeout at 25.0, 5th in the league. UTA is 20th in the nation in double plays turned per game at .62, 1st in the league. UTA ended 12th in the nation in 2017. UTA is 40th in fielding percentage at .972. Randi Phillips is 8th in the nation and tops in the league with 2 saves.
HEAD COACH Peejay Brun
UTA coach Peejay Brun enters her first season at the helm of the Mavericks. Brun owns a 138-157-2 all-time record as a head coach after two seasons at Hawaii-Hilo and a stint at Sienna.
Brun brings 19 years of collegiate coaching experience to the Mavericks program, including six as a head coach. For nine of the last 11 seasons, she has served as an assistant coach at Texas State University.
A 1994 graduate of the University of Hawai'i, Brun comes to UTA following one season in her second stint as an assistant at Texas State after serving as the head coach at the University of Hawai'i at Hilo for two years. She led UH Hilo to a 63-33-1 overall record, a 41-19-1 record in the PacWest Conference.
Brun developed a NFCA All-America selection, eight all-league honorees and two all-region selections at UH Hilo. Eighteen student-athletes under her direction earned all-PacWest academic honors and six were named NFCA Academic All- America.
