UT-Arlington will open the 2006 Southland Conference season Saturday against McNeese State in a three-game series at Allan Saxe Field.
UTA (6-6) enters the game and being swept in a doubleheader ove third-ranked Texas, 5-1, 9-1, at McCombs Field in Austin.
ABOUT MCNEESE STATE: McNeese State (6-9) took two games from Southern University on Wednesday, 3-1, 5-1.
The Cowgirls have been led offensively by junior outfielder Rachel Phillips. She is batting .366 with two home runs and eight RBI. Senior pitcher Jessica Denham is the other Cowgirl batting better than .300 with a .316 average.
As a team, MSU is batting .244 and has an ERA of 4.26.
EXTRA BASE: UTA mustered just 45 extra-base hits in 2005. After 12 games, the Mavs have 20 extra base hits. UTA averaged fewer than 3.0 runs per game in 2005 and through 12 games are averaging 4.25 runs per game.
BY THE NUMBERS: UTA is 3-0 when leading after six innings... the Mavs are 4-0 when the opposition scores two or fewer runs... the 10-run outburst by the Mavs in the championship game at Hawai'i was the first time UTA has scored double-figures in a game since the 2004 season when the Mavs defeated Prairie View 13-0 and 16-0 in a doubleheader at Allan Saxe Field... UTA has scored 12 runs in the fourth inning and are outscoring opponents in the fourth inning, 12-5.
WELCOME HOME: Saturday will be the first game at Allan Saxe Field this season. March will be a busy at the Field with 14 games scheduled to be played at Allan Saxe Field.
THE SERIES: Saturday's first game will be the 71st in the series that UTA leads, 36-34.
