SAN DIEGO, California -- The UT Arlington Mavericks will compete in the San Diego Classic II hosted by San Diego State from March 14-17. The Mavs are coming off a 4-1 weekend at the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic and an overall record of 12-8.
UTA will start off the weekend against Southern Utah (17-3) Thursday, March 14 at 12:30 p.m. This game is not part of the tournament, but will be hosted by San Diego State. This will be the fifth meeting for the schools with UTA leading the series 4-1. In February of 1997 the Thunderbirds defeated the Mavericks 1-0 in San Antonio.
The Mavericks will also face Miami (2-12) Thursday at 3 p.m. as their first game of the San Diego Classic II. This is the first meeting between the two schools.
UT Arlington will face UNLV and Bryant back-to-back starting at 11 a.m. Friday, March 15. UNLV is 7-13 on the season and this will be the fifth meeting for the two schools with UNLV leading 3-1. Bryant is 2-3 on the season and this will be the first meeting for UTA and Bryant.
Saturday, March 16 the Mavs take on Seton Hall at 1:30 p.m. This will also be the first meeting for these two schools. Sunday, March 17 the Mavs close out their play in the tournament with a match up against a familiar face. UTA will take on Buffalo at 1 p.m. The two schools meet earlier this year in Orlando, Florida when the Mavs won 5-3 and lead the overall series 2-1.
The Mavs will be led this weekend by senior Teri Lyles,who was named WAC Pitcher of the Week on March 11. Lyles went 4-1 in the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic in Lubbock, Texas.
After the conclusion of the San Diego Classic II the Mavericks will travel home to face Big 12 opponent Baylor Wednesday, March 20 at 5 p.m. at Allan Saxe Field.
