ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington softball is eager to get back in action after its last SLC series was rained out this past weekend at McNeese State. The Mavs are heading to Denton for their 28th overall meeting with North Texas on Wednesday. UTA holds a 22-5 lead in the series and an 8-2 lead on games played in Denton.
North Texas a former member of the Southland Conference is 15-23 on the season and 7-5 in the Sun Belt. The Mean Green are coming off a 2-1 series with Florida International. UNT won the first game of the series 8-2 and 6-5 in the final game on Sunday.
Susan Waters leads the Mean Green with a .375 average scoring 36 runs and has hit 13 home runs on the season. On the mound Ashley Lail has acquired a 9-8 record on the season for a 2.94 ERA in 123.2 innings of work.
Katie Jones continues to lead the Mavs with a .468 batting average and nine home runs on the season. She is followed closely by senior Dee Jay Nelson with a .375 average and eight home runs on the season.
Freshman Heather Fortenberry leads UTA in the circle with an 8-1 record for a 2.83 ERA in 74.1 innings of work.
UTA will welcome Southland Conference newcomer Texas A&M Corpus Christi for a three game series starting on Friday. The Mavs and Islanders will kick things off with the first game of a double header at 4 p.m. on Friday and conclude with a single game on Saturday at noon at Allan Saxe Field.
