Louisiana Tech leads the all-time series 28-19... at Allan Saxe Field both teams are even at 8-8... the last recorded win for the Mavs was at Allan Saxe Field on March 29, 2006 where UTA recorded a 2-0 win.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
LA Tech - Tech is 17-11 on the year after winning two of three this weekend in San Jose while UTA is 19-16 after taking two of three against Northwestern State. .. LA Tech's Meghan Krieg (13-9, 2.11 ERA) leads the team on the mound... Krieg has worked 142.2 innings this season, allowing 101 hits and 95 walks while striking out a WAC-best 178 batters... Opponents are hitting only .197 against Krieg including only 20 extra base hits... Offensively, Tech is led by Amberly Waits (.417, 5 HR, 22 RBI), Kylie Bassett (.242, 7 HR, 18 RBI) and Jessica Kirby (.229, 3 HR, 29 RBI) while Meghan Knowles (.377, 2 HR, 15 RBI) and Kendra Harmon (.267, 2 HR, 11 RBI) have also been productive.
> Samantha Chumchal extended her five-game hit streak, connecting on a pair of hits in game one and two and a hit in game three against Northwestern State.
> Rebecca Collom recorded a pair of doubles in game one and game three over the Lady Demons.
> Cara Hulme notched a season high 13 K's in game three against NWST.
> The Mavericks are 9-9 against non-conference opponents.
LAST TIME OUT VS. NORTHWESTERN STATE
The UT Arlington softball team took care of Northwestern State Friday evening, recording a 4-0 shutout win and followed with a 5-1 victory in game two at the Lady Demon Diamond in Natchitoches, La... Teri Lyles (9-9) guided the Mavericks to a 4-0 win in game one, pitching a complete game, giving up only four hits and striking out four... Senior Samantha Chumchal, Lyles and Courtney Zink each finished with multi-hit performances while Rebecca Collom, Cara Hulme and Kelsey Kaiser also connected on hits... Senior Brittany Washington scored the Mavs first run of the game after Kaiser singled to second base... The Mavericks were all on the Lady Demon's pitcher in the next inning, scoring one run on three hits. Zink, Hulme and Chumchal each recorded a hit in the frame... UT Arlington wasn't done yet; they plated two runs in the top of the seventh on three hits just in case Northwestern State was to tie it up.
Even though the last two games for senior pitcher Cara Hulme (10-6) hadn't been her best, she entered game two regrouped and ready to lead her team to a win and that she did... Hulme pitched her 12th complete game of the season, giving up one run on two hits and fanning a season high 13 batters... Chumchal and Zink recorded multi-hit performances in the contest... The Mavs plated runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings... UTA's first run of game came off the bat of Zink who hit a sacrifice fly to left field which scored Kaiser from third... Kaiser reached earlier in the frame on a single to left field... The Mavericks continued to put the ball in play in the fourth which disrupted the Northwestern State defense. UTA scored two runs on two hits and two errors by the Lady Demon's shortstop... UT Arlington came right back at NWST in the next frame, plating two more runs on three hits... The Mavs were held scoreless in the final two innings but Hulme and the Mavericks defense remained solid... Northwestern State's lone run came in the third inning when Stormi Stech connected on a double to left center and scored on a throwing error by Hulme.
The combined pitching of Teri Lyles and Cara Hulme (9-7) in game three wasn't enough to complete the sweep over Northwestern State Saturday afternoon as they dropped a 2-1 11 inning decision at the Lady Demon Diamond in Natchitoches, La... The setback dropped UTA to 19-16 overall and 10-7 in conference action... Lyles started on the mound but was pulled in the fifth after starting the inning with a walk... The freshman threw 4.0 innings, allowing one run (earned) on three hits and walking three... In relief, Hulme took the loss giving up the winning run in the bottom of the 11th... Hulme pitched 6.1 innings, surrendering one run on two hits and fanning five batters... The Lady Demon's were the first to put a run on the scoreboard in the second after they connected on a pair of hits and loaded the bases. With two outs, Lyles issued her second walk of the inning which gave NWST a 1-0 advantage... Kari Karr, who pitch ran for Rebecca Collom tied the Mavericks at 1-1 in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly to center field by Lyles. Collom led off the frame with a hard double down the left field line... Hulme and the Maverick defense were able to keep the Lady Demon's from scoring through four innings, leaving five runners stranded. As UT Arlington and Northwestern State headed into the 10th inning, the international tie breaker was enforced... Both teams were unsuccessful in scoring a run in the 10th but the Lady Demon's did make it interesting connecting on a hit and leaving two runners left on base... In the 11th, once again the Mavs couldn't get the bats going and ended the frame three and out... Northwestern State on the other hand played small ball perfectly, advancing the runner from second to third on a sacrifice bunt and scoring the winning run on a single up the middle... As a team, UTA scattered four hits- two coming off the bat of Heather Fortenberry. Collom and Samantha Chumchal also connected on hits.
