SHSU - Sam Houston stands tied with Northwestern State for eighth place in the Southland standings with a 7-11 SLC mark and a 15-23 overall season record. Sam Houston recorded a series sweep at A&M-Corpus Christi outscoring the Islanders 18-10... The victories pull Sam Houston to within a game and a half of the top six teams in the league... Senior Morgan Mikulin pitched her fourth shutout of the season in the final game of the series and had a hand in each decision, going 2-0 with a save, five strikeouts and only two walks... Sophomore Erin Burford hit .400 against the Islanders with an RBI, four hits and scored five runs... Junior Hailey Wiginton leads the Kats at the plate swinging a .336 average ranked 10th in the league.
LAST TIME OUT - NEW MEXICO STATE
The Mavericks extended their win streak to four games after recording a 4-1 non-conference win over New Mexico State Monday afternoon... Heather Fortenberry led the Mavs offense recording her sixth multi-hit game of the season, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBI... It was the fourth time this season that the senior outfielder recorded a multi-RBI game... Cara Hulme threw her 14th complete game of the season, allowing only one run (earned) on five hits while fanning four.
STEPHEN F. AUSTIN SERIES
The Mavericks wrapped up their series with the Ladyjacks of SFA with a 3-0 mark, shutting them out in all three games... Teri Lyles and Cara Hulme were solid on the mound, allowing 18 hits in 22.2 innings of work... Lyles went 2-0 while Hulme went 1-0... the duo held Stephen F. Austin to a .175 batting average and combined for a 0.00 ERA... at the plate, Rebecca Collom has brought her big bat for the Mavs... Collom finished the series with a .545 batting average, connecting on six hits with a pair of RBI and two runs scored... in game one, Samantha Chumchal lifted the Mavericks over SFA in a nine inning scoreless ball game with a home run... UTA repeated their game one performance with a pair of shutout wins in game two and three.
UTA QUICK NOTES
- The Mavs remain in fourth place behind defending champions Texas State (21-18, 16-5), SFA (21-12, 13-5), and Nicholls (20-12, 12-6).

LYLES EARNS SECOND SLC HONOR
UT Arlington freshman Teri Lyles has been named the Southland Pitcher of the week by vote of the league's sports information directors the league office announced Monday. Lyle received her second of the year and joins Sam Houston State senior Morgan Mikulin as the only players in the league to win two player of the week awards this season.
The award also moves UT Arlington into a tie with Stephen F. Austin for most team awards on the year with three each.
Lyles guided the Mavs on the mound to a 2-0 record against the top team in the Southland Conference, Stephen F. Austin. A native of Keller, Texas, Lyles made three appearances to finish with a 0.00 ERA, allowing only 10 hits, one run and striking out 10 in 19 innings.
In game one against the Ladyjacks, Lyles guided UTA to a 1-0 win in 9.0 innings of action, allowing zero runs on four hits. She then followed that performance with a 4-0 shutout win in game three. Lyles held her opponents to a .152 average and allowed less than five hits in each of her three appearances. She also pulled double duty at the plate, recording a .308 batting average, recording a hit in three-of-four games, including a pair of hits in game two against SFA.
Cara Hulme SETS NEW SEASON HIGH
Last week on the road against Northwestern State, Cara Hulme set a new season high of 13 K's in game two... Hulme led the Mavericks to a 5-1 win, pitching a complete game, allowing one run on two hits... Hulme's season high before Northwestern State was nine strikeouts... on the season, the senior hurler has combined for 110 K's.
