UTA sophomore pitcher Jill Garro struck out a season-high nine batters and limited Texas State to four singles as the Lady Mavs handed the Bobcats their eighth straight loss, a 2-0 setback at Allan Saxe Field Sunday afternoon.

UTA (23-22-1, 14-10) moved above .500 for the first time during conference play and secured fourth place in the upcoming Southland Conference Postseason Tournament to be played next weekend in San Marcos. Texas State falls to 36-17 and 19-6. The loss also opened the door for Texas-San Antonio to claim the league's regular season crown Monday when they face McNeese State in a triple header at Lake Charles, La..

Senior outfielder April Jones stroked her fourth career extra-base hit to score Jenna Fotune in the second inning for a 1-0 lead.

That would be all the help Garro (14-12) would need as she scattered five hits and walked three.

UTA scored an insurance run in the sixth inning. Freshmana outfielder Amanda Haney scored on an error with one out to make it 2-0.
